Unboxing Warzone Resurrection - Dark Legion and Upgrade Pack

With six (soon to be seven) awesome factions that each has their own unique character it's difficult to decide which Mutant Chronicles Warzone Resurrection force is the one for you.

I'm therefore going to do an unboxing (technically an 'unbagging' until they get packaging) on each of those aforementioned factions in order to enable you to come to a (relatively) informed decision. We'll look at the stat, strategy, tactical and gear cards as well as looking at the models in both their unassembled and assembled forms. If there should be any minor assembly issues encountered along the way then we'll cover those as well...

I'm sure you've all seen pictures of things in a bag so we'll skip that bit...

The Dark Legion 'Starter Set' contains enough parts to make one Alakhai, ten Undead Legionnaires and a Razide in various configurations. All Starter sets give you a legal army of one Warlord and two units of five 'Troops' as well as additionally giving you some kind of Support unit or Light Vehicle as well.

Also in this article we'll take a quick look at the Dark Legion 'Upgrade Pack' as it doesn't really warrant an article all of it's own but is obviously going to be of most interest to Dark Legion players. It also compliments the Starter Set remarkably well.

First we'll show you what you get in 'army list' form as well as the minimum and maximum potential unit values that you can make from your starter set. Obviously some units can be increased in size at a later point and their maximum value will increase accordingly.

Warlord (Close Combat)- Alakhai (220)
No upgrade options.
Troops - Undead Legionnaires x5 (50 Min) (66 Max)
This unit has three upgrade options though one requires the replacement of a model with one you don't have in the starter set(16 points total for the most expensive two you can actually take using the starter set)
Troops - Undead Legionnaires x5 (50 Min) (66 Max)
This unit has three upgrade options though one requires the replacement of a model with one you don't have in the starter set(16 points total for the most expensive two you can actually take using the starter set)
Support - Razide (75 Min) (75 Max)
This unit has one possible upgrade but it's free

This gives us a points range of 320 points (Minimum OOC of Warlord and two troops) up to 427 for this starter set though your actual figure will most likely be somewhere in the middle.

Onto the actual bits and pieces then...

Unassembled.
We'll look at both sides of the parts 'as they come' without any clean-up in order to give you a complete picture of what you get and what work they need.

Alakhai.

Undead Legionnaires.
You get two lots of the pictured parts...

Razide.

The following upgrade pack is available to purchase separately and is a great compliment to the Dark Legion Starter Set...especially if you've bought two of the aforementioned Starter Sets...

Dark Legion Upgrade Pack.

 Some close-ups...

Back to the Dark Legion Starter Set then.....

We also get a number of resource cards which vary in appearance from faction to faction...

...as well as stat cards for the units in the starter set and a number of 'Strategy', 'Tactical' and 'Gear' cards for use with the advanced rules. Some of these cards are only available with certain models but this is helpfully labelled on each card. Where there are multiple quantities of each card I'll just show one of each type.

Stat Cards.

Tactical, Strategy and Gear cards.
There are often more than one of each card and sometimes as many as three or four but showing the same cards multiple times seemed a bit redundant.

Alakhai.

 Undead Legionnaires.

Razide.

Starter.
Strategy.

Tactical.

Gear.

I suppose we should look at them assembled as well.

The models come with appropriate bases but unfortunately they have slots in them but this can be easily rectified. Personally I fill them with hobby store matchsticks then base over them though there's any number of other methods. I haven't based these yet.....

Alakhai.

Undead Legionnaires.
You can create a massive variety of poses with the Legionnaire kit. Of the starters it probably gives you the widest variety of looks.

The Legionnaires come with all the possible weapon upgrades so can be used as a basis for a new squad or as an expansion for an existing one.

Weapon upgrades.

Razide.
The arm joints on this one need a bit of filling but that says more about the current state of my cutters than the kit itself as the others I've assembled were fine.

A Group Shot.
Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. I too had some problems with the razide. Seems like there is some warping around the joint.

    1. It's not so bad that a small amount of filing or hobby putty can't fix it. Of the many resin model ranges I've dealt with over the years the Prodos ones have been by far the best in my experience.

  2. Great unboxing as always GMort, really love these! It's strange though it seems some Razide models have a more raised weapon (mine has) and some in a pointing stance like yours... strange
