Unboxing Malifaux - Hannah, Friekorps Archivist (Through the Breach Version)

Well you wouldn't expect a girl to have just the one outfit would you?

The version that comes with the Through the Breach Kickstarter doesn't have a box. It comes like this...

The Hannah, Friekorps Archivist bag contains enough parts for one miniature...namely Hannah, Friekorps Archivist. It also contains stat cards for her and a single upgrade card.

The bag has one sprue in it, an insert picture as well as the aforementioned cards...

Should there be any assembly issues with the model then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures by clicking on them. Wyrd Miniatures also seem to have stopped putting instructions in things and instead give you a leaflet with a web address on it that leads to a number of links but I'm afraid up to now you don't even get that with this particular model therefore there will be more than the usual amount of assembly process pictures in this article.

Each finger is separate...no, that isn't as bad as it sounds as I'll demonstrate. Each hand has one 'primary' finger that goes in a large slot in the middle (one hand has clenched fingers the other has straight ones but the tab on the aforementioned primary fingers is uniquely shaped so you can't get them the wrong way around). After inserting the central finger the others go on each side and in the case of the straight fingers leaves a gap (complete with slot) for the fourth.

The ball is in two pieces and has a circular slot in which to insert the chain. This is a tight fit so be careful as you could easily snap the chain. Test fit this first and if necessary widen the hole or you could just cut off the tab and glue it straight on..however that might weaken the connection...I leave that decision to you...

The other hand is exactly the same principle so I haven't bothered with as many 'in process' pictures. You can see the correct finger placement from the pictures below.

It shouldn't be possible to assemble the feet part of the armour incorrectly because the shapes are fairly unique though I have included a picture of the interlocking just in case.

Also this tiny armour plate goes on the shoulder. You can see both the gap into which it fits and the piece itself in the following picture.

The model has some mould lines that go across areas of detail but as these are fairly light they can be removed by running across them with a sharp scalpel blade.

Here's some close-ups...

Here are some of the 'Ledger' arm and the 'Ghost Censer' arm.

For those of you interested in the difference between the Through the Breach version and the retail version here's some comparison pictures courtesy of Sean from the Wyrd Place Facebook Group...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  2. Am I correct in assuming that the whole top part of the robot attaches through that single joint in Hannah's back? Trying to figure out a good way to break up the mini for painting purposes.

  3. The side-by-side comparison is very nice. They seriously bulked up the model for the retail version. I think I like the ball joints and the bulked up suit a bit better in general, but I think the TTB version tells a much better story in one piece. I'm not a fan of Hannah's pose or how she 'fits' into the suit in the retail version.

Can't complain with there being two excellent models out from Wyrd, though.
