Petersen Games Newsletter

In case you were wondering who the hell Petersen Games are they're the people who bought us Cthulhu Wars...apparently they do other stuff as well...

ORCS MUST DIE: the boardgame

This is our next big project and we plan to launch our Kickstarter campaign very soon. Petersen Games and Robot Entertainment are not only good friends, but have close personal ties (the folks at Robot provided much of the playtesting feedback for Cthulhu Wars, for instance). Now we are working together to build a premier tabletop game!
Orcs Must Die – the Boardgame dares you to preserve your stronghold sieged by orcs. You get traps & weapons galore, and can team up with friends to obliterate the nasty orcs and their grotesque allies.

Orcs Must Die – the Boardgame contains more than 40 great miniatures, including heroes, orcs, kobolds, gnolls, trolls, ogres, and more. Build an exciting fortress then watch as enemy armies bash through your defenses.

Orcs Must Die – the Boardgame actually consists of TWO separate games! One game is based on the heroic Order, in which you play heroes such as the War Mage or the Sorceress, while fending off a terrifying orc onslaught. In the Unchained version of the game, you play monstrous heroes, such as Bloodspike the Orc General or Midnight the assassin, and face down the assaults of human warriors, their allies and trained beasts (lions, elves, bears, dwarfs, etc.)

If you own both the Order and Unchained games, you can go head-to-head, leading your armies into the citadel of your enemy! Up to 8 players can team up against each other in the combined game!

Enjoy co-operative or competitive action, fun monsters and unique heroes. Our upcoming Kickstarter campaign has plenty of great stretch goals and additional bonuses planned, including free digital perks usable in Robot Entertainment’s online games.

Glorantha: THE GODS WAR

The Gods War is coming later this year, after we have finished fulfillment of all the Cthulhu Wars campaign pledges. With this project, Sandy Petersen moves into the realm of myth! Today, many games feature fantasy topics. Most of these games have the same generic elves, orcs, dragons, and so forth, struggling for dominance. But in The Gods War the Gods themselves are battling as they face the end of the universe!

The Gods War is a competitive strategy game in which 3 to 5 players summon minions, heroes, and gods, construct shrines, temples, and ziggurats, and clash in mortal combat. The players earn magic runes, seek to destroy their enemies, and capture their enemy’s bases. Each faction has its own unique set of beings, runes, and its own  Greater God(s). For example, the Darkness faction features trolls, the Mistress, shades, and the Hellmother; while the Sky faction has archers, the Emperor, star captains, and the Sun God. The game has a world-shattering “mythic” feel to it, rather than a “fantasy adventure” sensation.

The Gods War is based on the vigorous mythic realm of Glorantha, the basis for tabletop, roleplaying, and even digital games, as well as many works of fiction. Its depth and scope has been recognized by aficionados of both literature and gaming, and now it comes to you in all its astounding power. Fear not – no knowledge of Glorantha is needed to enjoy the game! (But if you are zaready a fan, it’s all here.)

For those familiar with Cthulhu Wars, the basic game uses many of the same elements – it boasts a Power track, for instance. But the differences are many too – you can befriend or bribe your rivals, and the gameboard itself changes, as the universe draws nigh to annihilation. The game includes Hell and the Sky as playable areas, so you can act in realms beyond mortal ken.

As with Cthulhu Wars the empires are wildly different in nature and composition, and so every player has numerous strategic and tactical choices. Mystical Runes and Heroquests accumulate during play to add new options, further expanding the game horizons.Gods War is fast-moving and richly interactive.

As you’d expect, Gods War includes a fantastic assortment of amazing miniature figures, many of huge size – some even larger than those in Cthulhu Wars! For Glorantha fans this is a special treat, as we are producing some figures that have been impossible to acquire in the past, such as the Mad God, the Crimson Bat, and even Genert the Earth Titan.

CTHULHU WARS

The roll-out of the core game of Cthulhu Wars was a success! See what reviewers are saying on the right.

If you are a backer, we hope you are enjoying your new game. If you are not a backer, you can still pre-order copies of the game from the Petersen Games website:

https://petersengames.com/shop/

The rest of the rewards promised (all the exclusives, add-ons, and expansions) are being produced as quickly as we can manage it, and our current expectation is that everything is shipping to backers and pre-orders this summer. Our Chinese partners tell us that they are currently ahead of schedule on production, and we are working to keep it that way!

Cthulhu Wars is projected to hit retail store shelves near the end of March. In the summer (when rewards ship), we will also launch the Opener of the Way andThe Primeval Map expansions to retail. For a limited time, we will have all the expansions available from our online store, however.

THEOMACHY

Our Theomachy Kickstarter finished well, and the team is finishing the final design polish and art pass. We expect that it will take only a few months to produce, so watch for it in late summer or early fall. It is still possible to get in on the Kickstarter prices and reward package!
