Black Library Newsletter

For those of you who like their books to look pretty here's Aaron Dembski-Bowdens Night Lords trilogy in hardback for the first time...

With a Black Library submissions window open, we're talking each week to an author who came to Black Library through such a window and getting their advice for aspiring writers. Today is Ian St. Martin, whose submissions window debut has led to much bigger things… Here are his thoughts:
"A submissions window is a great opportunity to present your writing directly. It provides the editors with a snapshot of what you can do within a specific brief, and helps the author to practise creating lean, exciting storytelling within tight parameters.

As someone fortunate enough to have had two different submissions accepted, something I recommend is to focus on rich atmosphere, brisk pacing and meaningful action. Paint a vivid picture of the scene, and throw the reader right in the thick of it! And as always, keep the WAR in Warhammer!"
Ian's Black Library debut came as part of the Deathwatch series, with the story City of Ruin. Check it out for more ideas on how to appeal to the editors. And to familiarise yourself with the guidelines for the current window, head to blacklibrary.com now.
