Wild West Exodus - Two Player Starter Set - Part One - An Introduction

While wandering around the various stalls at Salute 2017 this year I was drawn into the Wild West Exodus stand via the cunning method of them offering me a rulebook for free...I then bought the two-player starter set...that wasn't free though...obviously...

As I now seem psychologically incapable of buying any thing without doing a review of it here we go with a brief introduction article with a bit of background and some pictures which'll get the dull but necessary bits from the box out of the way before we look at the models...which lets be honest is what you're actually waiting for...

Wild West Exodus
Wild West Exodus is a miniatures game played by 2 to 4 players in control of the faction of their choice. In the world of WWX, every model has the potential to be a hero or a villain. The game mechanics and rule set feature exciting game play from the first dice roll. Each player will be allowed to field a posse of 3 to 40 models. The WWX rules have been designed to allow for scaling of the game to high or low model counts while maintaining a dynamic and fast-paced game tempo.

One of the most exciting parts of the Wild West Exodus game mechanic is the reusable influence pool. The influence pool will give players the option to gamble away a set amount of tokens in return for a reroll of the dice. Be careful what you gamble on because once the tokens are committed they are lost for that turn. The D10 system gives the game life and options that round out easily and allow for quick decision making.

Two Player Starter Box
It came in a box...that's probably not a surprise...

The box contains five sprues containing parts for twenty eight models, bases for those models, one template set, one token set, four dice and a mini rulebook. All the components are good quality and well worth the price of the box. In fact given the price of the models in the box through normal retail you're effectively getting the accessories for free...

The dice are of the ten sided variety...

...but the bases have a somewhat unique style and the small ones are marginally larger than the 30mm round-lipped variety used by the majority of skirmish games. This isn't an issue if you're using the official models but is worth noting if you're likely to be slipping a 'counts-as' in there anywhere...

Stat Card downloads for all the models are available from their website in physical form HERE or for free in electronic form HERE.

As is usual with such starter sets the rulebook is pretty much just the rules only with only the bare minimum of background material within. It's also worth noting that as I'm writing this the rules are currently being updated to a 2nd edition...the good news is that you can apparently get the 2nd edition rules for free if you have an original rulebook...and yes...that includes this mini one from this set...details can be found HERE.

Two Player Starter Box - Sprues
The sprues parts are lettered and numbered so you can easily identify which part is for each model and the attachment points to the parts are intelligently placed so you don't lose detail. There are no instructions in the box but assembly is fairly simple. I'll cover any minor assembly issues in the subsequent articles dealing with the two factions from the starter set.

Here's pictures of both sides of the aforementioned sprues...

Okay...I feel a tiny bit guilty about not showing any assembled pictures so here's a sneaky preview of the Outlaws who will be the subject of part two...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.
