Unboxing Malifaux - Vintage McMourning

"The Doctor is in..."

The Vintage range of miniatures are sometimes found in prize support 'mystery boxes' as well as available to purchase via Wyrd Games various sale events or via their 'Guilder' scheme if you're lucky enough to be (or be willing to perform 'favours' for) a local Henchmen or attend certain events...I acquired mine via one of the aforementioned sales...it also came in a bag rather than a box...making this an unbagging I suppose...

The Vintage McMourning bag contains enough parts for one miniature...namely Vintage McMourning. It also contains a stat card for her though there are no upgrade cards.

McMourning
Some Resurrectionists are content to raise the dead and take pride in how well the zombies resemble their living counterparts. McMourning is different. Working as the Guild's coroner provides him with plenty of bodies which will not be missed. Given his position within the Guild, he is able to study many of the creations of others, and even some of the monstrosities predating humanity's arrival to Malifaux.

His work began as pure research, funded by the Guild to see if they could use the information to their advantage. Initially, the tests showed little success. Without magic they were little more than a conglomeration of parts. The project was closed, but McMourning wasn't finished.

With the cloying scent of embalming fluids and slowly decomposing bodies, the morgue itself was located far enough away from the main Guild Headquarters that it was a simple matter to create a secret tunnel further into the sewers, where he established a proper lab. Within this sanctuary he was free to practice the skills he had learned and expand them to include his own creations. Each time a body comes to him, he picks the best parts before having the rest buried.

Over time his lab has grown, and he has surrounded himself with depraved sycophants. With his "nurses" to aid with each operation, and Sebastian to help him cover his tracks, he has managed to stay one step ahead of the Death Marshals... more or less.

Vintage McMourning - Sprue
The bag has one sprue in it as well as the aforementioned cards. Here's pictures of both sides of it...

Vintage McMourning - Stat Card
Wyrd Games don't normally like my publishing pictures of both sides of the stat cards but as the stats for their masters are on their website I don't think it matters in this case...

Should there be any assembly issues with the model then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures or instruction pictures by clicking on them.

Vintage McMourning - Instructions
Couldn't find any official assembly instructions so you'll have to make do with my pictures I'm afraid...

Some General Notes on Assembly
Many of these models contain quite small parts so depending on how dexterous you are you might consider getting yourself some tweezers. Dry-fitting is also always a good idea in case a part needs a tiny bit of extra filing or filling as some of the fits are quite tight. Where the parts on the sprue are quite thin (chains, weapon shafts, cables and the like) then it might be better to remove parts with a sharp scalpel rather than cutters.

Vintage McMourning - Assembled
The body is two large pieces to which the arms and face require adding, One of the hands is quite small and a bit spiky but other than that it's an easy assembly job. The head/face assy despite being small fits well.
There's a tiny piece on left hand that aligns with the sleeve on the right hand to represent him pulling on his glove.

Vintage McMourning - Comparison Picture
Here's a comparison picture between the original metal version and the newer plastic one and a group shot of the four versions I currently have. The original metal version in the first picture is propped up on some bases so you can compare the scale better as the one has a slightly more elaborate base than the other...

Vintage McMourning - Rotational View
Here's a rotational view...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.
Should you ever choose to purchase something based on one of my features or reviews then it would be nice if you could let the company know where the inspiration came from...who knows...they might be grateful to the poor unappreciated blogger who sent you their way...if however I've put you off a product...well...you can keep that info to yourself...

  1. He looks huge compared to the original plastic version, like the scale is off.
